Compliance & Downloads

Product change notification - EU Declaration of Conformity for gridBox v4.5, gridBox v4.5s, gridBox v5.0

Reason

Following a legal review of our EU DofC we have clarified the status of the USB power supply for the gridBox. Including the power supply in the gridBox package does not constitute a new product. The power supply unit is legally considered an accessory to the gridBox. The EU Low Voltage Directive (LVD, 2014/35/EU) does not apply to the gridBox itself. Within the LVD a voltage minimum of 50V is specified. The gridBox only uses 5V DC and therefore is below this voltage limit.

To clarify the scope of our EU DofC, we have specifically excluded the LVD for the power supply. This distinction is important because it confirms that gridX is declaring CE conformity for the gridBox itself, not the power supply. Each power supply used with the gridBox has its own independent DofC, including compliance with the LVD. This approach ensures we maintain appropriate documentation and verification processes for the gridBox while acknowledging the separate conformity of the power supplies.

Risk mitigation

gridX continues to perform all necessary measurements according to the LVD, utilizing the EN62368 standard as before and document the results in the product files as quality assurance measurements to prevent quality-relevant information from being missing.

FAQs

Is an RS485 connector included in the gridBox v5.0 package?

No, it is not included in the standard scope of delivery. But for larger production batches, it can be ordered separately.

Is the USB workaround for RS485 connections still supported for the gridBox 5.0?

For local gateway versions that do not have a RS-485 port, the USB port can be used to enable RS-485 connections with an USB to RS-485 adapter. The local gateway 5.0 has an in-built RS-485 port and the USB ports are supported to establish RS-485 connections.

Is it possible to use the serial number to determine whether the gridBox is a v5.0 or v5.1?

Yes, here is an example of a gridBox's serial number: H123-500-XXX-YYY-ZZZ-P-X where 500 indicates that it is a 5.0 and H123-510-XXX-YYY-ZZZ-P-X where 510 indicates that it is a 5.1 version of the local gateway.
